Tunica RiverPark Family Fun Day Reopening Celebration

After months of cleanup and repairs following the 2011 Mississippi River floods, the Tunica RiverPark & Museum is back!!! And it’s time to shout it from the rooftops.

The RiverPark is a one-of-a-kind interactive, interpretive museum that showcases the life of the river and its history, featuring aquariums, ecotrails and riverboat cruises. During the hiatus the facility’s event space was reconfigured, pavilions with grills are being added to the grounds that can be rented for parties and family reunions and brand-new museum exhibits are in the works. Come see all the changes for yourself.

You’re invited to celebrate the reopening with us at the Tunica RiverPark Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 10 am – 5 pm. The day’s festivities will include live blues music, children’s activities, FREE admission to the RiverPark Museum, special Tunica Queen cruise schedule at a discounted rate, gift shop specials and more!

Down the Road at the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center

The Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center opened recently in Tunica County on US Highway 61. The center marks the first phase of a project that will transform what was a visitors center much like other visitors centers across the state into a cultural center and museum that authentically conveys the rich music history of the Mississippi Delta.

The basic structure of the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center is a turn-of-the-century wood-frame train depot. It was moved from Dundee, Miss. and renovated to become the new center.

Another Cotton-Picking Day in the Delta

When someone mentions the Delta, what comes to mind?  Probably The Blues, the Mississippi River, agriculture, casinos, and, of course, cotton!  If you’ve visited Tunica, you can see that we rose from acres of farm land to become the great gaming destination we are today.  You may have glanced at the fields of cotton on your way to one of our nine casinos and maybe even stopped to grab a little.  Being that we’re not originally from the Delta area, Lisa and I wanted to learn more about cotton and experience a cotton picker for ourselves.
