Barenaked Ladies is an unconventional name for a band, but then again the band has never claimed to be. With quick speaking lyrics in songs like “One Week” and “Pinch Me”, Barenaked is an original. The band released their first album in the early 90’s, but I bought my first album, Stunt, during my college years and the songs were addictive and just made me want to dance.
Just a few days ago, the Town of Tunica was visited by the “California Gurl” Katy Perry, and her beau, Russell Brand. Tunica’s not unaccustomed to having big-name stars visit especially when they come to perform, but this mini-vacation for the soon-to-be married couple was a very welcome surprise.
You know the feeling you get when you “discover” a great band? I love hearing new music! And finding a local artist that I can tell all my friends about is even better. A few years ago, I happened upon a band named Gabby Johnson. Their cover songs were great, but then to hear the Gabby Johnson sound was awesome! Many people in the Mississippi Delta know exactly what I’m talking about as fans of Gabby Johnson.

For many, when I say the words “Village People” it conjures up images of a policeman, an Indian chief or maybe even a construction worker. However, while that band makes me want to use my arms to spell out “YMCA,” they also remind me of other successful bands and singers in that era — some of which are returning to the stage in Tunica over the next few months. Keep reading to find out what three songs spent the “Village People” decade on top of the charts.
