Players frequently tell me stories about big wins, ask questions about how the games work, or to point out unusual things they see in casinos.
In the case of a reader named Melinda, she just wanted to share how nice people had been at her table, and how that helped her win at Mississippi Stud.
“Usually, I play some slots and some blackjack, but the blackjack tables were full and I felt like playing cards. There were seats at a Mississippi Stud table and players looked like they were having a good time, so I gave it a try.
“I said straight out I was a beginner, and Jerry, the dealer, talked me through how to bet. The other player helped too. One guy said that if I played a lot of blackjack, I wouldn’t have any trouble with Mississippi Stud. It was a lot easier than blackjack.
“I kind of fumbled through a few hands, and then I was dealt a pair of 8s. It was just a push hand, so I thought I’d only bet one times my ante. The man next to me could see my cards and he said, ‘You want to bet three times there.’ I said, ‘I do?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, you can’t lose anything, might as well see if you can draw a winner.’
Jerry the dealer knew just what was happening, and he jumped in. ‘Pair of 6s to 10s?’ he asked. I nodded, and he said, ‘You want to get your chips out there.’
So I did. I bet three times my ante, and when the first of the common cards was another 8, I about fainted. I wound up with my ante and three three-times bets, and I won 3-1 payoffs on them all. That was $300!
I thanked everyone, because I wouldn’t have won as much without all the help. I tipped Jerry and knew I was going to have a winning session, thanks to the advice from everyone.
