January 1st rang in the New Year 2015 and with it came the all-new Gateway to the Blues Museum. Located alongside America’s Blues Highway 61 at the entrance of the Tunica Resort area, the new museum officially opened to the public on January 26th.
The 3,500 square foot museum is an addition to the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center that opened in the restored one room train depot in 2013. The exhibition represents one of the most important collections of Blues artifacts and memorabilia in the country. Over seven hundred items help to illuminate our story about the origin and development of blues music in the Mississippi Delta.
Visitors will be entertained while being educated on the unique role the Mississippi Delta played in the development of America’s rich musical history. Whether a blues aficionado or just a fan of music, the museum will not disappoint. Designed to be a primer to the larger blues product found in the Mississippi Delta, helpful trip pointers located throughout the museum will point you in the right direction for further exploration. If you find yourself interested in a particular blues musician or historical blues location, the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center and Museum is the perfect first stop along the Mississippi Blues Trail and all that other communities throughout the Mississippi Delta have to offer.
The Gateway to the Blues is open to the public on Monday, January 26th and will hold a Grand Opening Celebration on February 19th at 3:30 p.m. The museum is open M-F 9-5, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 1-5. Admission – $10 Adults, $5 Children
