Fall is upon us in the Delta. Temperatures are beginning to drop and leaves are starting to turn, and there’s no better way to mark the season than with the Delta Day Festival in Downtown Tunica’s Rivergate Park on October 27.
The fun begins at 9 a.m. and doesn’t stop until 5 p.m. for this one-day festival celebrating the heritage and history of The Delta. Free and open to the public, Delta Day offers something for everyone in the family.
Children’s activities include a petting zoo, face painting, balloon artist,moon bounce, pumpkin painting and a giant slide! Plus, there’s an opportunity for the kids to have their picture taken with Hospital Wings, a popular medical helicopter landing in the park that afternoon. And for the younger kids ages 5 to 8, the Children’s Tractor Pull will give them a chance to show their stuff! What’s Halloween weekend without a costume contest? See all the adorableness of kids dress up in their cutest or scariest costumes.
Delta Day’s not just about the kids, adults will enjoy the annual antique car and tractor shows, as well as live entertainment from band such as Super Chikan and the Fighting Cocks and K.C. Johns. And like any great festival, there will be multiple arts and crafts vendors selling everything from food to clothing. Then when the hunger hits, you’ll have a multitude of choices from barbecue and southern fried catfish to corn dogs and funnel cakes.
Visitors can also stroll Tunica’s historic downtown, visiting the unique shops and taking the self-guided walking tour of Main Street, which is a part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
