Sometimes in blackjack, the best offense is a good defense. And splitting pairs is often a form of defense. Take a pair of 8s, especially when the dealer has a 10 face up. If we play it as a 16, we bust too often if we hit, and if we stand, the dealer beats us all 79 percent of the time he makes 17 or better. (more…)

It’s party time in Tunica! The @TunicaMS Twitter account is one year old today! It all started with the first tweet “Check out the latest promotions and specials on our website www.tunicatravel.com”. Little did we know that one year later and over 2,700 tweets later, we would be addicted. We have tweeted about everything from where to get the best catfish in the Delta and having to endure spa treatments to the experience of big name entertainment in Tunica, all so our followers can know what to expect when visiting. This past weekend I had a chance to take part in something unique. The Swing Shoppe along with Tunica National Golf & Tennis hosted a Glow in the Dark Tennis night to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. About 70 players signed up to take part in this unique event. (more…)

The free odds wager in craps is a rarity, a wager with no mathematical edge to the house. To make it, you have to first make a bet that DOES have a house edge --- the pass line, where the 1.41 percent advantage to the house still makes it one of the better bets in casinos. (more…)

A slot machine player wrote to say she was intrigued to watch two slot technicians open a three-reel machine. They flipped a switch, hit the play button --- and every combination that showed on the reels was a winner, in order. First game the jackpot symbols, then the 7s, then the triple bars on down to the lowest winner, a single cherry. (more…)

It’s summer in Tunica. While you may enjoy the cool air conditioning breeze inside Tunica’s nine casinos, sometime on your trip, you’ll want to get out and explore. I wanted to fill you in about one of my favorite places to get away from everything and really see Tunica at the most beautiful place to see the Mississippi River—the Tunica RiverPark Ecotrail. (more…)

You know the feeling you get when you "discover" a great band? I love hearing new music! And finding a local artist that I can tell all my friends about is even better. A few years ago, I happened upon a band named Gabby Johnson. Their cover songs were great, but then to hear the Gabby Johnson sound was awesome! Many people in the Mississippi Delta know exactly what I'm talking about as fans of Gabby Johnson. (more…)

Slot machines have been with us ever since Charles Fey invented the Liberty Bell slot in San Francisco in the 1890s. Those early slots were mechanical, and if you knew the number of symbols per reel, you could calculate the odds. If a game had three reels with 10 symbols on each reel, and one top jackpot symbol per reel, then the odds of hitting the top jackpot were 1 in 10 x 10 z 10, or one in 1,000. (more…)

Tennis doesn't require a great amount of coordination. After all, I learned to play a few years ago, and I'd had coaches my whole life talking me out of playing sports. Since I work in Tunica, and since Tunica National is one of the best places to get a drink after a long day, I started watching people play tennis and realizing Tunica is one of the best public tennis in the country to play this great sport. (more…)
