The casino life is big, flashy, and full of fun, so it’s no wonder Tunica is the perfect backdrop for stories, movies, and more. As we gain a reputation for the place to be we try to keep up with who is saying what and how Tunica shows up in pop culture. We’ve started compiling a list of known and possible Tunica references. Check them out and see if you can help us add to the list!
Mississippi Grind (2014)
Sam’s Town shows up on the silver screen in all the casino shots.
Walk the Line (2005)
This heart-yanking biodrama of Johnny and June Cash used the old theatre at the Isle of Capri (right beside Sam’s Town) for the concert scenes.
Finding Graceland (1998)
Listed as a filming location on IMDB, Tunica features some scenes in this what-if-Elvis-never-died feature. Hollywood Casino has been offered a potential explanation for the location tag.
Ocean’s Thirteen
Tunica shows up in Al Pacino character’s dialogue, “Tunica, Mississippi? That’s where games go to die, isn’t it?” We beg to differ, of course – in fact, we think you ought to come experience the razzle and dazzle of Tunica for yourself. Chrisley Knows Best
Todd’s beloved mother Nanny Faye loves that casino life and Horseshoe slips into a few episodes. But that wasn’t the only time the Chrisley scene-stealer showed her affinity for Tunica—she even shouted out Gold Strike in her 2016 instant classic “Twas the Night Before the Casino!” A woman after our own hearts! See what Tunica offers that you can fall in love with for yourself by exploring our current promotions here.
Black Snake Moan (2006)
A tale about a Mississippi bluesman, we hear tell Tunica might be in the film. We know for sure it was filmed in Mississippi, but specific feature locations haven’t been identified. Think you know? We want to hear about it!
Hank Williams, Jr.
Hank Jr. talked about his time in Tunica on the Tonight Show after a show at the Horseshoe. We love when we make it to the lips of legends!
