Delta Blues – Tunica Tourism FAM Trip

Delta Blues – Tunica Tourism FAM Trip

The Delta Blues – Tunica Tourism FAM Trip is open to anyone in the Tunica Tourism Industry interested in learning more about the unique culture and heritage that our area has to offer.  We will leave from the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 9th.  The trip will last all day with the bus returning to Tunica around 9:30 pm after visiting one of the Delta’s last remaining authentic Juke Joints – Po Monkey’s!

Please follow the links below of an in-depth look at what you will experience on this unique day in the Mississippi Delta!

Dr. Luther Brown,  Director of Delta State University’s Delta Center for Culture and Learning and is one of the foremost experts on the Mississippi Delta Blues, will serve as our on bus tour guide.  Listening to Luther is a treat and you will be sure to come home with more information than you could ever imagine.

Clarksdale, Mississippi – We will tour the Delta Blues Museum see Morgan Freeman’s famous blues club Ground Zero and visit Hopson Plantation and the Shack Up Inn.

Indianola, Mississippi – Just 45 minutes from Clarksdale, our next stop will be in the childhood home of the King of the Blues, Mr. BB King!  The BB King Blues Museum has received critical acclaim and is a must stop for anyone traveling along the MS Blues Trail.

Cleveland, Mississippi – While in Cleveland, we will stop by Dockery Plantation where you will learn how this area was home base to many of the Mississippi Delta Blues legends to include Charlie Patton and Tunica’s own Son House. We are guessing you might be getting a bit hungry by this point so our next stop will be for some true Mississippi Delta Soul Food at Senator’s in Cleveland.  Yes, Senators is know for great food and for its famous proprietor, Mississippi Senator Willy Simmons of Cleveland.  Typically closed on Thursday’s, Senator Simmons has graciously opened his doors for our tour.

Po’ Monkey’s – Last but not least, our tour continues with an experience unique only to the Mississippi Delta.  Get ready to dance, drink some cold beer and meet one of our area’s most interesting people, Po’ Monkey himself!

Tunica, Mississippi – Home!  Thanks’s for joining us on this one of a kind learning experience.  We think you will enjoy the experience along with gaining a little more knowledge about what makes our area a unique place for visitors from around the world!
