Matt Jordan a regular contributor to this blog proclaimed earlier this week that he knows spring is here each year with the start of March Madness. For me, Spring has not officially Sprung in Tunica until what I affectionately call “Crawfish” week or officially know as the annual Tunica Downtown Event – called the Rivergate Festival.
If you like to get outside of the Tunica casinos and experience the lifestyle of the locals, the Rivergate Festival is just the place. Located in the quaint downtown park in the middle of Tunica, the festival has a little something for everyone! If you like arts and crafts, booths line the streets. If you like Harley’s, you can’t miss the running of the Hogs. If you like music, we’ve got local talent in the 3rd Annual Tunica Idol contest and we’ve got the professional talent of Big Joe Shelton and Ashley McBride performing on the main stage.
The showstopper of this small town, one heck-of-a good time weekend is the mudbug! The crawfish, crawdaddy, crayfish or just plain ole mudbug is what I look forward to each year. Over 10,000 pounds of this southern delicacy will be prepared by some of the crawfish cook’nest folks I know, in one of the most unique settings you’ll find anywhere – “Crawfish Alley”!
If any of this sounds fun to you, I invite you to come join us the weekend of April 15th and 16th in downtown Tunica for our Annual Rivergate Festival. If you’re like me, Spring has not officially sprung until you hear that first siren blow from the crawfish crew announcing – Hot Fish…..Crawfish that is!
