California Gurl and Beau Visit Tunica

California Gurl and Beau Visit Tunica

Just a few days ago, the Town of Tunica was visited by the “California Gurl” Katy Perry, and her beau, Russell Brand.  Tunica’s not unaccustomed to having big-name stars visit especially when they come to perform, but this mini-vacation for the soon-to-be married couple was a very welcome surprise.

At hearing the news, our first thoughts were “Wait! Wasn’t Katy just in Las Vegas celebrating her last days as a single lady?” and then we learned that Katy will be the musical guest with Amy Poehler hosting the premiere of Saturday Night Live this weekend.  We appreciate that she and Russell decided to spend a little time in our humble abode resting and relaxing.  Luckily for Russell & Katy, there weren’t any paparazzi except for a few locals pictured here that couldn’t help but ask for a quick snapshot with the two.

Katy & Russell stopped in a local specialty gift shop, 1251 Place, named for their physical address on Main Street in Downtown Tunica. 1251 has tons of great gifts, including dishware, pottery, jewelry, purses, baby gifts and clothes, some even from local Mississippi businesses.  And 1251 Place recently opened 1251 Apparel on Highway 61 to expand their selection of fashion items.

After a leisurely stroll of shopping, Katy and Russell headed to Cafe Marie located in a revamped 1890’s hotel for a relaxed dinner.  Cafe Marie offers steaks, seafood and Southern fare.

Why Tunica, you ask?  Tunica is a great place that you can not only Live It Up, but also take a quick (and sometimes quiet) getaway from the worries of your day.  Two other quick tidbits – Katy’s dad is originally from Memphis, just 30 minutes away from Tunica, and her manager is a Tunica hometown boy.

Tunica is the place to Live it Up Just Down the Road with nine world-class casinos, big-name entertainment, three championship golf courses, great dining, outlet and specialty shopping, Mississippi River attractions and museums, and all just 30 minutes south of Memphis.
