Are you looking for something different to experience on your next trip to Tunica? The Blues Belt Café and Marketplace, Museum de Sankofa, and The Lounge are all located near The Fitz Casino and offer full afternoon and night worth of dining, touring, shopping, and entertainment.
We took the tour recently and met with owners Mr. and Mrs. Stan Taylor and their nephew, Edward Taylor, to get the full story of why they decided to open businesses for tourists to enjoy.
“We noticed there were no BBQ or southern cooking places in Tunica near the casinos and not many places to relax outside of the casinos,” Taylor said. “We love to cook for groups, listen to good live entertainment, plan events, and show people historical items we’ve collected over the years, so opening several businesses in Tunica to share what we love only made sense.”
One of the most interesting parts of the Taylor’s business is their art artifacts. Some are for sale, but others are featured in the Museum de Sankofa, which will open this month. Taylor was in the import business for years and has collected very valuable pieces from the West African Coast that are on display with replicas available for purchase.
“Sankofa means ‘to go back and retreive’,” Taylor said. “The message of the Sankofa is that we can no move forward successfully until we have retrieved and understood vital information from our past.”
The Lounge, which is part of the overall complex, is ultra sleek and modern with sophisticated drinks at affordable prices. Featured acts appear regularly at The Lounge including Bobby Rush and other blues and R & B singers. Owner, Edward Taylor, says The Lounge is the perfect meeting place to unwind.
“We bring live entertainers and have events weekly ranging from karaoke (Wednesdays) to Sunday and Monday night football,” he said. “It’s unlike any bar in Tunica because it is an intimate setting.”
Finally, don’t leave the Blue Belt Marketplace without browsing all of the jewelry, purses, décor, and gift items.
These businesses are located on 3468 Casino Way in Tunica Resorts, near Fitzgeralds Blvd and near Fitz Casino. For more information go to www.BluesBeltMarketplace or www.TheLoungeTunica.com, and take a tour on your next trip to Tunica!
