Travel Tunica: Relax and Unwind in Tunica

BELLISSIMO3Relaxing and unwinding was my mission for the day at the Bellissimo Spa at Harrah’s Tunica.

Since a spa is about pampering yourself, I decided to try something different while I was there. I booked a Vichy Shower, Facial and Haircut with Highlights, three things that sounded relaxing yet glamorous all at the same time.

Because we decided to go on a Friday and booked last minute, I had to start my day a little early. My first appointment was at 8 in the morning. I had to arrive at 7:45 to get changed for my Vichy Shower. I had read the spa menu to found out what it was, but really had no idea what was in store for me. I’ll admit I was a little nervous.

As an added bonus, there are snack bars and juice and water galore. What more could a girl ask for! I got changed for my first treatment pretty quickly and was ready to start my day.

Let me say again, I had never had a Vichy Shower, nor knew what it was. Spa staffers told that me if I didn’t mind the water I would enjoy it. I love the water, so I thought what the heck. I walked into a room that has seven water jets above a table. I had chosen to have the mud treatment. The Vichy Shower specialist gave me a quick rundown of what was going to happen and within minutes, I was covered in mud. The mud had a menthol feel to it so it was pretty tingly and cold. Luckily, they wrap you in towels to let the mud dry. That takes about 10 minutes.

BELLISSIMO4Once the mud dried, the specialist turned the water jets on. This was the best part. The jets had a massaging effect and the attendant was also spraying me down with warm water. All this while laying on a massage table- aaahhhhh!!! I have to say that I was glad that I tried this because it does leave you very refreshed and your skin soft. I don’t think it would be my first choice though. It could be a little intimidating for someone who doesn’t get to go to a spa much.

Paula Deen Buffet FrontMy next treatment was a facial. I will leave some of the details to the imagination so you’ll try it for yourself, but I can say this was definitely worth it. I had the seaweed mask, which hydrates and exfoliates your skin. It is so relaxing to lay there in the quiet while they apply these wonderful smelling products. On top of that, your skin really does glow afterwards.

After our morning treatments, my coworkers and I, who were also getting spa treatments, changed and took the shuttle bus across the street to Paula Deen’s buffet at Harrahs. That’s always a treat!

lisa hair didAfter lunch, we came back, changed clothes and headed in different directions again. I went for my haircut and highlights. This was probably my favorite part of the day because I’m always obsessing about my hair. Mrs. Gayla was my stylist and she was the best. She spent time with me deciding what would color and cut would be best. I have to say, I think we made some good choices.

spa girlsAfter we’d all gotten the royal treatment, we all met back up for a dip in the whirlpool. That’s right, the spa has a whirlpool room, sauna, and steam room that you can use all day! I even tried the immersion pool, which is supposed to close your pores after you’ve been in the steam room. It was a little chilly at first, but felt good once I got used to it. The whirlpool felt even better after that too. We were finally able to drag ourselves away from the whirlpool room to head to the hotel bar for a cocktail before heading home for the night. It was the perfect end to a fun day.

If you are looking for a relaxing and revitalizing day with the girls, I would definitely suggest the Bellissimo Spa at Harrahs Casino Tunica. It definitely helped me accomplish my mission and I’m already planning my next trip back.
